Trained in medical botany at the University of Pisa, Andrea Pieroni earned his doctorate from the University of Bonn in Germany. He has worked as a Researcher, Lecturer, and Senior Lecturer at the University of London and of Bradford, UK. From 2009 he is Professor of Ethnobotany at the University of Pollenzo, of which he has been the Rector from 2017 to 2021.
Professor Pieroni is the founder and Chief Editor of the Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine and sits on the boards of diverse international peer-reviewed journals. His research focus is on the diachronic and spatial changes of local plant knowledge in the Mediterranean, the Balkans, and the Near East.
